Hergestellt aus echten Münzen, sind Spy-Coins ein unauffälliges Versteck für microSD-Karten und andere kleinste Gegenstände. Die Spy-Coins bestehen aus zwei Hälften und sind innen hohl. Sie sind von gewöhnlichen Münzen kaum zu unterscheiden und bleiben auch dann geschlossen, wenn sie in die Hand genommen werden oder zu Boden fallen.

Mitgeliefert wird ein Metallring, mit dem der Spy-Coin geöffnet werden kann.

“I’ve had hollow nickels since I was young. They take two nickels and fabricate them in such a way that they fit into each other, creating a hollow space in between. With the hollow nickel, it happens to hold a micro SD card. You can get a half-terabyte micro SD card for a couple of hundred bucks, and what I like to do is encrypt my crucial data onto the micro SD card so that you can’t access anything without a password and two-factor authentication. I then put that micro SD card in the hollow nickel, which looks just like a regular nickel when it’s closed. If I hide that hollow nickel behind an electrical outlet that looks like it fell, and someone tears into the wall and sees it, they’re just going to say ‘Oh, a nickel’ and won’t get freaked out. It’s easy for me to hide them in friends’ homes, which sounds mean and like I’m a bad friend, but it saved my butt once.”
